I say this with all due respect and sincerity; Pat Buchanan is a raving lunatic. He is nuts, crazy, dotty, daffy, dopey, dippy, daft, demented, disordered, screwy, loony, touched, wacky, cuckoo, insane, preposterous, bonkers, imbecilic, cockeyed, a few feet short of a yard, loopy, balmy, crackers and non compos mentis. Oh, and he is a major ass, too. I don’t think of this guy as a conservative. I don’t think of him as a libertarian. I think of him as mentally disturbed. He shouldn’t be on MSNBC, or Faux Noise or any of those other cable enablers who profit from his illness. Somebody who loves him should have long ago given him a big pencil and a sheet of paper and locked him in a rubber room. Have you heard the crap that has been flowing out of his mouth of late?

“TB is back in the United States primarily because of mass illegal immigration…Seven hundred thousand East Asians are believed to be in New York. The New York Times – and it’s in my book - said 100,000 of them carry hepatitis, hepatitis B….There are reports by all kinds of doctors and others on the increase not only in Hansen’s disease, which is leprosy, where they found 7,000 cases in the first three years of this century, only 900 in the 30 years before that…These are documented…they’re all in there, all manner of – Chagas’ disease kills 50,000 in Latin America each year. Something like 19 million have it. It is now appearing in the United States. There are bed bugs back in 26 states. All these figures were documented in my book. Not a single one of them has been challenged by anyone!”
*
Is he kidding? I checked. None of his numbers are accurate, none of them. He’s making this stuff up as he goes along. If he needs a number, he invents it. And bedbugs?... Bedbugs?! Let me point out that “raving” is defined as “delirious, irrational speech”, from the Old North French word “raver”, meaning to dream or wander, and “lunatic” comes from the late Latin “lunaticus”, meaning suffering from lunacy, meaning you are insane. Put them together and they define a wandering insane person, a description which would allow you to pick Pat Buchanan out of a crowded Washington restaurant with a reasonable degree of success.
*
I’m not going to debate the point because it is, as Thomas Jefferson said, “self evident” that Pat Buchanan is a raving lunatic. He is disconnected from rational thought. He is a neo-fascists pandering to the knuckle dragging imbeciles who share his zeitgeist if not his egocentric cultural arrogance. He is a racist anti-Semitic with delusions of grandstanding, a sexist, ex cathedra zealot, a homophobic devotee, a proponent of eugenics, a Mel Gibson Catholic and a dishonest xenophobic hate monger. This guy is la lunĂ¡tico, ein Wahnsinniger, dement, de vanvittig, und waanzinnig. He is crazy!
*
Pat repeats himself while shilling for his book, “State of Emergency; The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America.”; “Malaria, polio, hepatitis, tuberculosis and such rarities of the Third World as dengue fever, Chagas’ Disease and leprosy are surfacing here .... Bedbugs have invaded the United States for the first time in 50 years, with 28 states reporting recent infestations.’”
*
Again with the bedbugs…bed bugs are getting to be a theme with Mr. Buchanan. And he likes themes. The late, great Molly Ivins listened to Buchannan declare cultural war on the Democrats at the Republican Convention in 1992 and observed, “It probably sounded better in the original German.” It was Pat Buchannan who invented the cultural war, the war on Christmas, the war on religion, and you know, Pat seems to have some sort of obsession about declaring wars of various kinds. But his current fixation is a horror he calls “Mexamerica”.
*
“El Plan …aims directly at a reannexation of the Southwest, not militarily, but ethnically, linguistically and culturally through the transfer of millions of Mexicans into the United States and a migration of “Anglos” out of the lands Mexico lost in 1848. In California, the project is well advanced….Stated bluntly, the Aztlan Strategy entails the end of the United States as a sovereign, self-sufficient, independent republic, the passing away of the American nation. They are coming to conquer us.”
*
And THEY are bringing their weed wackers, which is good because so many of Pat’s ideas need a good wacking. The light in Pat Buchanan’s belfry appears to have burned out some time ago, but he keeps ringing the bell to alert the villagers.
*
“A radical Left aided by a cultural elite that detests Christianity and finds Christian moral tenets reactionary and repressive is hell-bent on pushing its amoral values and imposing its ideology on our nation. The unwisdom of what the Hollywood and the Left are about should be transparent to all."
*
That was an earlier war, in which the ‘unwisdom’ of Pat Buchanan was displayed when he pithily observed, “There is one root cause that is common to all riots: rioters.” Wow, that clears up so much about Watts and Rodney King and the Zoot Suits. But sometimes Pat pushes the theme thing a bit to far, as in 1994 when the “paleo-conservative” wanted to be called “Pitchfork Pat”.
*
“They (the Republicans power structure) are in a terminal panic. They hear the shouts of the peasants from over the hill. All the knights and barons will be riding into the castle pulling up the drawbridge in a minute. All the peasants are coming with pitchforks. We're going to take this over the top."
*
And Pat has been over the top ever since. But now that he represents the Grand Old Party power structure, and yet things still don’t look so good to the Grand Old Pitchfork himself, he has located the problem and declared a new war against the ‘brown people’, as Bush 41 referred to them, and the ‘Hispanics’ as Bush 43 called those he wanted to bring into the Republican Party. Well, Pat wants no part of a “…misogynistic, rebellious, youth sub-culture of drugs, gangs, crime, contempt for formal education, and hostility to police.”
*
So just what does Pat Buchanan want? In his own words he wants, “…the America I grew up with,” one protected from “fecund Muslims” (which is how people used to describe Catholics), and “…those whose loyalty lies out side of America (which is also how people used to describe Catholics). In fact, if you look at Pat’s view of the big, wide, dangerous world it becomes clear that everything that Pat sees as threatening has been identified in the past as Catholic. Sort of like the fast majority of Mexicans themselves.
*
Now that is interesting; a devout Catholic who preaches hatred and fear of Catholics. You see what I mean about him being a raving lunatic?
